Today we introduced our software release 2.5 with our next-generation platform, one more step we’re taking to advance our strategy to minimize cloud latency and significantly reduce the cost of storing file data in data centers. You can read the news release for additional details.
In these extraordinary times, anything you can do to reduce capital and operational expense without sacrificing access to your data is the right strategy for corporate IT. However, these strategies sacrifice end-user satisfaction as application latency inevitably increases. The InfiniteIO approach to data management is uniquely driven by understanding and managing our customer’s file metadata to simultaneously reduce storage cost and minimize cloud latency, without changing their existing IT operations, storage or workflows. Productivity improves as performance increases and costs decrease.
Simultaneously reducing storage cost and cloud latency
We believe migrating data and applications from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud is inevitable. Consolidating data in cloud services makes it accessible to users and apps while taking advantage of the cost savings of cloud compared to on-prem infrastructure. Already, more than 80 percent of all enterprises are adopting multi-cloud strategies that tie together private cloud and public cloud environments to run their business. However, while migrating data to public cloud storage can unleash cloud-native applications and services like AI, ML, etc., hybrid-cloud infrastructures today experience application latency, caused by on-premises applications grinding through metadata requests that require a trip to cloud storage.
Furthermore, organizations are saddled with cloud egress charges when they need to recall workloads and files for additional analytics, production or compliance requirements. Migrating data to the cloud is cheap, pulling it back is expensive and time consuming in terms of real dollars and latency. Whether you’re researching the cure for a pandemic or executing a digital transformation strategy, your organization cannot wait for data. Today, large-scale environments with petabytes of data require a more efficient way to harness their data stored in the cloud..
We believe that only a metadata-based approach can deliver a truly cost-efficient, high-performance cloud without tradeoffs in performance, cost or manageability. Building on today’s announcement, InfiniteIO will continue to extend our hybrid cloud tiering and application acceleration capabilities, including:
- Making it easier for enterprises to move their storage workflows to become cloud native, with no performance loss or application changes.
With our 2.5 release we’ve enabled hybrid cloud tiering with native file format, enabling new workflows to analyze tiered data. - Simultaneously accelerate application performance and reduce storage cost in the hybrid cloud while ensuring seamless file access for all users and applications.
To simplify and accelerate hybrid cloud storage, we capture all file metadata in real time and store all the metadata on super-fast DRAM. We are not caching data, we are accelerating responses to speeds never before achieved. Our goal is to reduce latency to speed up application performance. We make metadata access extremely fast, which in turn makes tiered data access as fast as your WAN can go. With our new platform and 2.5 release, a single InfiniteIO node can now deliver metadata responses at 40 microsecond latency, a significant improvement over existing solutions. At that level of metadata performance, we can reduce cloud latency to optimize the user experience regardless of where the file is stored. - Ensure the underlying IT systems are right-sized for maximum efficiency, while migrating upwards of 80 percent or more of inactive data to any cloud service.
For instance, customers adopting public clouds with cloud-native file storage integrated with InfiniteIO tiering technology could save up to 75% to 80% on storage costs compared to using public cloud storage without InfiniteIO tiering and migration technology. Thanks to all the intelligence on file metadata we’re able to optimize data tiering without tradeoffs. Customers can find and automatically place file data on the storage tier that is most cost-effective and high performance based on real business parameters, without changing workflows or existing operations.
With our metadata-first approach to hybrid cloud storage optimization, customers and partners will be able to simplify multi-cloud data management, leverage cloud-native applications to unlock the value of data stored in the cloud and optimize customer experience by reducing cloud latency to speed up critical applications, and retire on-premises infrastructure when the business is ready. Stay tuned as we will have more to come.
